For the majority of my teen and adult life, I’ve been trying to find the perfect products for my hair. I was reading in a magazine that Kristin Ess, celebrity hairstylist, had a new budget haircare line coming out at Target. Like I needed another reason to go to Target. Just the cute products in the less than $5 bins at the front of the store get me every time with junk I don’t need.
I love my Beautycounter shampoo and conditioner, so I’m not deviating from that. Styling products are what I’m in search of. So, I placed my order online, and I’ve been using it for about two months now.
Kristin is the founder of beauty site The Beauty Department. She is also a major social media influencer and stylist to clients including Lauren Conrad and Lucy Hale. People magazine did a short interview of sorts with Kristin and The Everygirl blog also did a very nice post. Allure magazine writes in depth about how this line is going to be major. Kristin has gorgeous red hair that I envy a lot. I mean A. LOT. Good products don’t always equate to me having beautiful hair though. I’ve pretty much given up that idea as I get older. I just want easy. Ain’t nobody got time to spend an hour on hair in the morning and primp it all day long like I used to.
As much as I like this line, it still isn’t the one, and I’ll tell you why below.
I finally ordered the glasses from Warby Parker that I have been coveting for quite a while. I paid the $95 which is about $50 more that I typically spend on glasses but I wanted them so much. I didn’t need them as I have about 8 other pairs but I was weak.
The style name is Simone and the color is Blue Coral. They are teal blue and brown tortoise and aren’t they just beautiful?
There is only one problem though. They don’t fit my head. How can that be you ask? Well, I have a fat head to be honest. I used to think it was all the hair I had but after I lost most of my hair when I got sick a couple of years ago I realized I just have a fat head. One size fits all hats don’t fit my head and if I can order by size I usually have to get the biggest one. I take after my father in that regard (well, there is many other things I take after him on as well but we won’t get into those today).
Collagen. What in the world is it?
Collagen [kol-uh-juh n]
any of a class of extracellular proteins abundant in higher animals, especially in the skin, bone, cartilage, tendon, and teeth, forming strong insoluble fibers and serving as connective tissue between cells, yielding gelatin when denatured by boiling.
Sounds kind of icky doesn’t it? But, it’s not.
I stumbled across a blog post from Predominantly Paleo in my blog reading one night about it. She mentions it in relation to thyroid health and hair health and I certainly have a problem with both of those. I’ve had thyroid cancer twice and have had my entire thyroid removed. I take thyroid supplements daily. In addition to that, I lost most of my beautiful long auburn curls when my hair fell out after a hysterectomy gone bad 2 years ago. My hair has not recovered in texture or color. But, that is a whole other blog post I intend to write soon.
